Introduction To Jingdezhen Ceramic University

 

Jingdezhen Ceramic UniversityJCUis the only multidisciplinary university named after ceramics in China. It has now developed into an important base for cultivating ceramic talents, innovating ceramic technology, and exchanging ceramic culture and art throughout the country and the world. JCU has a total of 21,000 student’s enrolled in its Bachelors, Masters, and PhD levels, approx.50% are art majors.

 

Introduction To International Ceramic Studio

 

The International Ceramic Studio (ICS) of Jingdezhen Ceramic University is a core element of the international education programming. Following a strategy of promoting cultural exchange projects and enhancing academic experience with international exchanges. The studio hosts ceramic art workshops, artist in residence programs, lectures and a wide range of on-site and traveling exhibitions. As a platform to promote intercultural dialogue, such projects actively promote diverse forms of ceramic art development and intercultural communication on campus and on a national level.

 

The studio covers an area of about 1500 square meters and has complete functional areas, including working, glazing, firing, exhibiting and resting areas. The studio co-operates with the school's ideas of international development to facilitate different types of artists, teachers and students from internationally renowned Universities that meets national and school policies.

 

 

Support

 

During the residency, the school provides artists with:

 

·Working space

 

·Materials ( Clay, glazes, firing and general tools)

 

·Shared two rooms apartment

 

·Studio with air conditioning

 

 

Requirement

 

After the residency, artist shall donate 50% of the works produced during the residency period to JCUIS.

 

 

Selection

 

1. Artistic quality of candidate's project proposal.

 

2. Artists with unique know-how, skills and resources.

 

3. The potential impact of the residency on the artistic work.

 

4. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working with ceramic art.

 

 

Residency Periods

 

Residence Duration: 1-2 months

 

Phase 1: March 15th - June 15th

Application Deadline: October 1st (the year before)

 

 

Phase 2: September 15th - December 15th

 

Application Deadline: April 1st (the same year)

 

 

Application Materials

 

1. Application form (in the attachment below).

 

2. An electronic front facing photo with white background (similar to your passport photo).

 

3. A scanned copy of your passport (the first page of the invitee’s passport. If you have ever been to China, please send us your previous China visa page).

 

4. Artist’s C.V. (curriculum vitae, in 2 pages).

 

5. A minimum of 10 high quality images of clay works.

 

6. 2 letters of recommendation, sighed by referrer.

 

7. A local police/judicial report or record indicating a record of law-abidance.

 

8. Physical examination, which needs to be stamped with the official seal of the medical examination organization (this document will be requested in the

procedure for obtaining the visa).

 

9. Certificate from invitee's highest academic degree.
