JCIIS Organizes International Students to Taste the Flavour of China by Making Dumplings on the Winter Solstice

The International School organized a cultural experience activity to celebrate the Winter Solstice Festival in the second studio on December 21th. International students made dumplings with their teachers while learning the Chinese traditional customs and experiencing the charm of traditional festivals,they also felt the warmth of the international school family.

 

 

 

The winter solstice is the starting point for ancient Chinese people to calculate the 24 solar terms, which is regarded as an important winter festival. Since ancient times, activities such as ancestor worship and winter greetings would be carried out on this day. Here was a saying in ancient China,“the Winter Solstice is as significant as the Spring Festival, which is a time for family reunion”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

International students made dumplings with their teachers to celebrate the Winter Solstice Festival in the second studio. They learned the whole process of dumpling-making carefully from dough kneading, filling making, wrapper rolling to dumpling wrapping and cooking. The international students said, it was unexpected to find dumplings, such seemingly simple food that filled with skills, wisdom and fun. Through the joint efforts, international students enjoyed fresh and hot dumplings, the fruits of their labor and felt the warmth of the international school family in the cold winter.
